The pups are now officially 6 weeks old. We have started the final worming sequence and they will receive their first shot soon. They have been totally swiched to dry food, two times per day. The first of the pups are scheduled to go home on Dec. 6th. We still have 5 males and a female for sale.
THe pups themselves are doing great. They range from normal size, to several gigantic males. They will get to play with pheasant wings and frozen birds all week. This is the week we rate them for their abilities, social nature and temperment. I try to give this info to customers to best place pups in their respective homes. We will have daily updates on the pups this week. Anyone looking for a chocolate lab puppy for a pet or gundog would be more than happy with these stocking stuffers.

Wow are these guys getting adventurous. When I open the whelping door its like a jail break. Out the door and they scatter around the whole kennel. They are really showing a lot of personality as well. Several of these pups should also serve as court jesters. We still have a few pups unspoken for. They should be great stocking stuffers or gun dogs.

Rommel is back from his fall vacation with Tom Waite of Dale Creek Gundogs. Tom requested Rommel to use him as a guide dog duck while hunting in North Dakota. According to Tom, Rommel gets an overall grade of A+. Tom said that he has hunted with master hunters and field champions in the Dakota conditons and was extremely impressed with Rommel’s performance. Rommel routinely performed marked and blind retrieves over 300 yards. Tom said Rommel showed his power and overall ability, impressing the clients he served.
Rommel will continue working through the guide season at Millford Hills, Dale Creek Gundogs and Wern Valley. In spring he will start his march toward his master hunter title and finished Title in the HRC.
The pups from this litter seem to grow bigger exponentially every day. They are now on strictly food with Sadie having weaned them completely. The pups daily are punishing the pheasant wings. They are well on their way to being upstanding gun dogs and couch chairmian.
All 13 pups have been wormed and have their dew claws removed. We will be continuing with the worming process and give them their first set of shots at six weeks old. I havent noticed any shirking violets at this point. I can see both the mother and the father in their personalities. The pups have both determination and a sweetness to their personalities.
Anyone looking for a quality chocolate lab pup for the field or couch should at the minimum stop by to see this brood.

I took four of our dogs guiding at Milford hills today. The conditions were horrible with sideways rain, 55 degrees and winds ranging from 15 to 30 mph. The field was set with 25 birds. To put it mildly it was an interesting hunt…… The dogs performed great throughout the hunt. With the conditions as they were the birds were more comfortable running than flying. We flushed around 30 birds and shot 19. Lily and Dixie were their normal steady selves. I also hunted Soggy Acres Nordic Belle, a past medical washout from our program I gave to my inlaws. She did well, but seemed overwhelmed at times by the conditions. The star of the day was a young chocolate male labrador retriever out of our Dixie and Swiper breeding. Soggy Acres Picketts Charge is ten months old and performing admirably. He tracks well and quarters good for his age. The impressive part of his game to date is his marking. He should be quite a nice gun dog. During his portion of the hunt he was run with his mother Dixie. He flushed 3 or 4 birds, but made 80 percent of the retrieves. With the conditions for the hunt it was challenging to mark as the grass was in constant motion swaying from side to side. He accomplished his retrieves by taking great lines that put him consistently in the area of the fall. Hopefully he continues at this rate and next spring he can storm onto the hunt test scene.

Our current litter with Sadie and Swiper is progressing great. The pups are just over 3 weeks old. They have started on regular food and have been introduced to pheasant wings. With 13 puppies pulling at the wings it was a literal mosh pit. Their activity level continues to increase and they are now out of the whelping box and roaming freely in their puppy pen.
These labrador retriever pups should make quality gun dogs, as well as good citizens in the house.
